Dear Colleagues,
Pl join me in congratulating our Graduate Recruiting Cmte, the GSO, Katie Field and all other participants for a job well done! I too received similar comments from the visitors - let's hope our hard work will bear fruit with a great incoming graduate class this fall!
With best wishes,

Subject: [Che-faculty-list] Graduate Recruiting
Dear Colleagues:
On behalf of the Graduate Recruiting Committee (Bryan Boudouris, Raj Gounder, Chongli Yuan, Ken Thomson, Joe Pekny, Carl Laird, Steve Beaudoin), I am writing to thank all of the students, faculty, and staff who participated in our graduate recruiting weekend. Our visitors were highly complementary of the organization, attention to detail, and sincere interest we showed them during their time with us. For the first time since I have been involved with recruiting at Purdue, we had a student accept our admission offer during the visit, which was a particularly nice outcome.
I would like to point out that the students commented consistently that they were impressed that our faculty and students were 'real people', who were approachable and personable. They also commented that, in contrast to a number of the other schools they visited, it was clear that our faculty and students genuinely liked and respected each other. More than one student was disappointed that our Friday evening reception ended at 10 p.m. (after 3 hours!) because they were enjoying the company of the faculty and GSO so much! I think that speaks very well of us, and is one of the many reasons I am so happy to be here.
Finally, it was a great pleasure for me to lead the committee this year. Bryan, Raj, Chongli, Ken, Joe, Carl, and Katie were efficient and responsive to the urgency of this activity, and as a result many of our recruits commented that we were the first school to respond to them, and that we were the only school that reached out to them personally via phone and email. This made a positive impression, and contributed to the overall positive atmosphere associated with the visit. Combined with the outstanding research and professional opportunities we offer, I expect that this sort of personal connection will lead to a high yield on our offers of admission.
Thanks again for your extra effort,
Steve
