Dear Colleagues,
I expect that you are aware of the three Provost finalists, whose brief bio data, full CV and visit schedules are available at: http://www.purdue.edu/provost/search/ . In particular, I want to bring to your attention Dr. Cato T. Laurencin, who will make his presentation at 9:30 a.m., April 21 in Fowler Hall, Stewart Center.
Some of you are probably aware that Dr. Laurencin is a chemical engineer by training: BS ChE from Princeton (1980) and a joint MD-PhD from Harvard and MIT (1987) - the latter under the direction of Bob Langer. As his CV shows, he holds a number of impressive positions currently at UConn (certainly in the news with basketball these days!):
"Chief executive officer of the Connecticut institute for Clinical and Translational Science, director of the Institute for Regenerative Engineering, director of the Raymond and Beverly Sackler Center for Biomedical, Biological, Physical and Engineering Sciences; University Professor, professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, professor of materials engineering and professor of biomedical engineering. In addition, he is the Albert and Wilda Van Dusen Distinguished Endowed Chair Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery in the School of Medicine."
Despite the administrative positions, he remains very active in research and has published 355 journal articles. He has received numerous recognitions, and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academy of Sciences.
If your time permits, pl attend the presentations of all 3 Provost finalists.
With best wishes,
Arvind
