Having spent my entire career with the Alaska DOT Bridge Section, I can personally attest to the tremendous opportunities for growth and professional development that come with working in Alaska. About the position:

This is a flexibly staffed position, meaning it can be filled at various levels depending on the candidate’s qualifications. We may also be able offer financial travel assistance to/from Juneau Alaska.



What You Will Be Doing:

  *   Comprehensive Engineering Experience: Interns will gain hands-on experience with bridge engineering tasks, including structural analysis and calculations under the direct guidance of licensed engineers who are experts in their field. You will work with the AASHTO Bridge Design Code and apply it in real-world scenarios.
  *   Field and Office Work: A highlight of this internship is the opportunity to travel across Alaska during the summer, performing bridge inspections in locations ranging from major cities like Juneau, Anchorage, and Fairbanks to remote villages accessible only by bush planes. Imagine flying over glaciers, observing wildlife like bears or moose, and even spotting whales as part of your work travels!

Beyond the professional experience, interns can enjoy living and exploring Juneau, which offers world-class hiking, fishing, boating, kayaking, and whale-watching opportunities. As summer winds down, there’s even a chance to catch the northern lights as nights grow longer.
