Subject: ABET Materials Collection for Spring 2025 Courses

Dear Colleagues,

I am sending this email on the behalf of the ABET Coordination Committee.

This is the last semester we are collecting detailed information in preparation for the ABET visit in Summer/Fall 2025. The attached spreadsheet shows a list of courses (core courses being used to assessment student outcomes are highlighted) for which we need some information from the instructors listed there. You may ignore this message, if the same course (either core or non-core course) was offered and its materials were collected in Fall 2024.

For each course in the list, the instructor is being asked to collect example student work for all exams, all projects, and at least 50% of assignments throughout the semester that are used to assess the student’s performance in the class and contribute to their overall grade. For each assessment, identify one student learning outcome from the recent list of seven below that is the best match. For each assessment, collect one example of student work that you would classify as Sophisticated (S), Proficient (P), Competent (C) and Not Competent (NC), respectively. Thus, each item would have five pdf files that you would submit including the first file which is the item being used for assessment. Please use the following file naming convention for each of these files: CE XXXXX_Spring 2025_Y_Assessment name_R, where XXXXX stands for course number, Y refers to the student outcome (e.g., SLO3) and R refers to the performance category.

For example the fourth homework assignment of CE 44000, identified with student learning outcome 3, would have five files (the assignment itself followed by one sample of student work in each category) named: CE44000_Spring 2025_SLO3_Assignment-4, CE44000_ Spring 2025_SLO3_Assignment-4_S, CE44000_ Spring 2025_SLO3_Assignment-4_P, CE44000_ Spring 2025_SLO3_Assignment-4_C, and CE44000_ Spring 2025_SLO3_Assignment-4_NC. In case the assessment does not conform to any of the student learning outcomes, replace Y with NA for not applicable. Please make sure all student identification information is removed from samples of student work.

For your information, the ABET student learning outcomes (SLOs) are listed below: https://www.abet.org/accreditation/accreditation-criteria/criteria-for-accrediting-engineering-programs-2018-2019/<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.abet.org%2Faccreditation%2Faccreditation-criteria%2Fcriteria-for-accrediting-engineering-programs-2018-2019%2F&data=05%7C02%7Ccce-faculty-list%40ecn.purdue.edu%7C62ec98725a2d4207372708dd3f153120%7C4130bd397c53419cb1e58758d6d63f21%7C0%7C0%7C638736082435179389%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=CbTSybK2czWfJ9j3NMeSDZ0MFU%2FatJihrC9i2uCD88U%3D&reserved=0>
1. an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
2. an ability to apply engineering design [emphasis added] to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
3. an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
4. an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
5. an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
6. an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
7. an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.

Some clarifications:
1. If your class has no undergraduate students, and has not had any in the last six years, then you do not need to provide any information.
2. If there are no examples of student work that fall in a particular category, then do not provide that particular file.
3. The examples of all student work must be anonymized. Any student identification needs to be erased or redacted from the submission.

To upload your materials, please login our intranet at https://eng.purdue.edu/jump/3055b61, where you will find your course folders.

Please complete the uploading by 05/13/2025.

Thanks,
Hubo
