Dear Engineering Heads,

The College of Engineering is soliciting ideas from faculty for new academic programs in Indianapolis that would thrive in the Indy ecosystem in the next 5 years.

As the first step, we invite ideas for

(a) new undergraduate degrees, or

(b) new Professional MS degrees, and

(c) new training/certificate programs (non-credit or non-degree granting, e.g. industry training)

Programs should address the following:

• Market responsive to central Indiana needs and opportunities and differentiate Purdue from competitors, and

• Involve a critical collaborative core of faculty from WL and Indy, and

• Align with current or future proposed research centers/institutes and likely to attract PUWL faculty to conduct research primarily in Indy based on unique advantages of Indiana’s capital urban environment.

To propose new programs ideas, please develop a 2-3 page proposal due February 21st, 2025, including the following info:

• Curricula type (degree, major, certificate, concentration)

• Level (undergraduate or graduate)

• Rationale. Why is the program needed? How does the program take advantage of opportunities in Indianapolis? What is unique and distinctive about the program?

• Evidence of student interest in the program

• Anticipated careers and first positions

• Description of similar programs at other institutions

• Projected AY start

• Projected instructional needs including classroom space, equipment, and technology

• Projected faculty/instructor needs to support the program

• Draft plan of study/requirements list

Proposals should be send to Sherrie Tucker, tucker76 at purdue.edu<mailto:tucker76 at purdue.edu> with cc to Nik Chawla (nikc at purdue.edu<mailto:nikc at purdue.edu>). Questions can be addressed to me, Associate Dean Tamara Kinzer-Ursem (tursem at purdue.edu<mailto:tursem at purdue.edu>), and/or Associate Dean Bill Oakes (oakes at purdue.edu<mailto:oakes at purdue.edu>).

Regards,

Nik, Tami, and Bill

Hi Nik,

You probably already sent the announcement out to the Heads, but just for your information. Below I pasted last year’s announcement outlining the process that we used to make selections to send to Jeff Karpike and team. I’m assuming that we want a similar process with earlier dates so we have plenty of time to review at the college level.

Best,

Tami

Engineering Faculty Colleagues,

the College of Engineering is soliciting ideas from faculty for new academic programs in Indianapolis via a 2-step process to coordinate and inform a strategic vision of research areas that would thrive in the Indy ecosystem in the next 5 years.

As the first step, we invite ideas for

(b) new Professional MS degrees, and

(c) new training/certificate programs (non-credit or non-degree granting, e.g. industry training)

Programs will have the following characteristics:

  * Market responsive to central Indiana needs and opportunities and differentiate Purdue from competitors, and
  * Involve a critical collaborative core of faculty from WL and Indy, and
  * Align with current or future proposed research centers/institutes and likely to attract PUWL faculty to conduct research primarily in Indy based on unique advantages of Indiana’s capital urban environment.

Step 1: To propose new programs ideas, please, complete a short Qualtrics survey by March 15. (https://purdue.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1YoBsWMrRWrEtkq<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpurdue.ca1.qualtrics.com%2Fjfe%2Fform%2FSV_1YoBsWMrRWrEtkq&data=05%7C02%7Ccce-faculty-list%40ecn.purdue.edu%7C86c05e3c887b496fb90b08dd52c1b414%7C4130bd397c53419cb1e58758d6d63f21%7C0%7C0%7C638757714372988671%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=sfFqH7hCuENIDY5BV2j39Ap1%2BXE779igL0pwBfrXgvI%3D&reserved=0>).

Step 2: Selected proposers will be notified on March 21st, and will be asked to develop a 2-3 page proposal due April 7th to the Senior Vice Provost for Purdue Indianapolis including the following info:

  * Rationale. Why is the program needed? How does the program take advantage of opportunities in Indianapolis? What is unique and distinctive about the program?
  * Evidence of student interest in the program
  * Anticipated careers and first positions
  * Description of similar programs at other institutions
  *   Projected AY start

Subject: Call for Proposals: New Academic Programs in Indianapolis

Dear Deans,

Attached please find a renewed call for proposals for new academic programs and course offerings in Indianapolis. This story in Purdue Today<https://www.purdue.edu/newsroom/purduetoday/2025/Q1/purdue-university-unveils-new-programs-in-indianapolis-for-fall-2025/> describes programs that were activated from last year's call. We are eager to get the next round of proposals moving. We want to emphasize that each proposal should clearly identify a primary point of contact who will have responsibility for leading the proposed academic program in Indianapolis.

David or I would be happy to speak with your leadership team to answer any questions about this call for proposals or about academic programs in Indianapolis.

As we did last spring, we are asking that each college solicit proposals and evaluate the proposals based on your college's priorities. Please submit a ranked list of proposals to me. The initial review of proposals will begin March 7.

Best,

Jeff
