Hello CCE Faculty!

The Purdue University College of Engineering Magoon Awards are given to outstanding research assistants in memory of Estus H. and Vashti L. Magoon, who have influenced the lives of many engineering researchers through this award. The award is made possible through the generous Estus H. and Vashti L. Magoon endowment and the College of Engineering. Each Engineering School is invited to nominate two PhD students for a research award. Each outstanding research graduate student will receive $2,000, a certificate, and recognition in a video produced specifically for this event.

Eligibility:

- PhD students in good academic standing who have passed the preliminary exam
- Has published at least one peer-reviewed journal article and/or made at least one oral or poster presentation at a professional conference. *For non-publically published articles, certifications from appropriate authorities are needed. (Priority should be given to papers where the student is lead author and to students who have also presented their work nationally.)

Selection Criteria:

Priority should be given to students who have demonstrated excellence in research through:
 *        Peer-reviewed publications in journals or conference proceedings;
*         Awards for research, including best paper and outstanding presentations;
*         Recognized or potential contribution of the research to the field;
*         Recognized or potential contribution of the research to Society;
*         Leadership within a research group or community (including mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students in their research);
*         Academic achievement;
*         Participation in professional societies.

If you would like to nominate a student for this award please submit (as one pdf in this order):
- a nomination letter, addressing the student's qualifications for the award based on the selection criteria
- a copy of one paper accepted or published in a peer-reviewed journal or conference proceeding
- a copy of the students transcripts
- the students resume (must include local address)

Please submit any nominations to me by 8:00 am on Monday, February 24, 2025.  If you have more than one student eligible, please submit only your top nomination to the CE Grad Committee.  All of the Civil nominations will be reviewed and ranked by the CE Graduate Committee and our top nominee will be forwarded to the College.
