I hope you have had a good summer and are ready to start the semester. This is a reminder about TA loads as you plan for the upcoming semester.  Here are some excerpts from the Graduate School handbook:

"... in all instances, the duties of the assistant must be fairly and equitably assigned, and the demands placed upon the assistant must not be unreasonable..... The generally accepted measure for setting graduate assistant assigned workloads is time. Purdue, like many other major research universities, assumes that a half-time appointment entails 20 hours of service per week...".

Typical TA duties include class or lab preparation, laboratory contact (lectures and non-lecture), office hours for student contact, grading homework assignments, grading lab reports, and consultation with supervising staff member. However, duties do vary with every course and faculty member.

Please ensure that your TAs are clear about their responsibilities for the course. If you have not done so already, please review your expectations with them at the earliest opportunity.
