all:
as the fall semester is about to start, i've been thinking about a response to the availability of AI tools like chatgpt and copilot for solving homework problems (and possibly more broadly), especially for quantitative non-open-ended simpler problems in lower-level core or core-like foundational courses, such as statics, dynamics, and hydraulics (others?).
gaging interest in a faculty forum/meeting on the topic, potentially in the week before semester starts. the first half (maybe less) of the forum/meeting would address the capabilities and weaknesses of these tools, mainly through results of some limited testing i've conducted of applying these tools to homework and exam problems. the second half (maybe more) would be an open discussion of implications and strategies/tactics for dealing with or incorporating these tools into courses.
