2025 Bridge Funding Program<https://government-transition.research.purdue.edu/2025-bridge-funding-program/?utm_source=sfmcPT&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=250416PurdueToday&utm_term=2025+Bridge+Funding+Program+page&utm_id=1087392>
Short-term, limited funding ("bridge funding") may be available to support continuation of research, if 1) there is an unanticipated termination or interruption of extramural funding and 2) there is a clearly demonstrated path to future funding. Funding is designed to maintain research programs at a minimum "essential" level. To be considered for funding, applicants must detail plans and specific timelines to secure new external funding.
Awards, if approved, will be made on a rolling basis. It is important to include in your request the date funds that will be needed to ensure that salaries can be covered without gaps.
No min. or max.; however cost reasonableness will be a consideration.
Shortest duration necessary; in general not to exceed 6 mons.
Eligibility:

* A Principal Investigator (PI) on a federal/state award who is notified of sudden, unanticipated termination in extramural funding prior to the anticipated project end date/no-cost extension date, through no action of the PI, or routine course of grant activity OR the PI who expected to be funded (as communicated by the agency delegate) but has not received the anticipated funding because of federal/state agency delays.
AND
* The PI has already exhausted non-sponsored (e.g. discretionary) funds to cover the costs normally incurred on the activity.

The ISP program supports research on lifeline systems and communities that contributes to the National Science Foundation's role in the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) and the National Windstorm Impact Reduction Program (NWIRP). Principal Investigators are encouraged to leverage NSF's investments in the Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure (NHERI) experimental, computational modeling and simulation, and data resources (https://www.designsafe-ci.org/<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.designsafe-ci.org%2F&data=05%7C02%7Ccce-faculty-list%40ecn.purdue.edu%7Cadc1b04f0b3a456ef57b08dd81e18082%7C4130bd397c53419cb1e58758d6d63f21%7C0%7C0%7C638809528461619137%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=hCnJo96%2BQxvkN99gWCluirPN3rD13aYOEl6G%2BY4oEAw%3D&reserved=0>) in their research to accelerate advances needed for reducing the impacts of natural hazards on infrastructures and people.

The USGS Earthquake Hazards Program (EHP) External Grants Office strives to advance the science that underlies EHP products by funding research that poses and tests new hypotheses, develops novel data acquisition tools, analysis methods, and products, as well as improves information dissemination and makes research results more effective in mitigating losses from earthquakes. External grants funded by the USGS EHP further our understanding of the genesis, propagation, characterization, and effects of earthquakes and advance our ability to assess and communicate earthquake hazards and risks.

Simons invites applications for the Pivot Fellowship program that will support researchers with a strong track record of success and achievement in their current field, and a deep interest, curiosity and drive to make contributions to a new discipline. The fellowship will enable today's brightest minds to apply their talents and expertise to a new field, and will consist of one training year where the fellow will be embedded in a lab of a mentor to learn the new discipline and its culture. Fellows and mentors must hold a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent degree in the natural sciences (astronomy, biology, chemistry, earth sciences, neuroscience and physics), engineering, mathematics, data science or computer science - and all subdisciplines therein - and be faculty at an academic institution or hold an equivalent position. Fellows must demonstrate that the fellowship will take place in a new discipline, distinct from their current field of study, within astronomy, biology, chemistry, earth sciences, neuroscience, physics or mathematics - and all subdisciplines therein. In order to receive the fellowship, fellows must be approved by their institution for a full year of leave.
Application:
May 15, 2025

12:00 PM ET
A Pivot Fellowship provides one year of salary support of the fellow's academic-year salary, whether normally paid over nine or 12 months, and a $10,000 research, travel and professional development allowance during the fellowship training year. Mentors will receive a $50,000 research fund during the fellowship year.

To optimize plant energy performance, staff need to have real-time knowledge of plant
operating conditions, parameters, and performance. Accurate energy performance
quantification is crucial for identifying inefficiencies, prioritizing maintenance efforts to mitigate
excess energy use, and identifying poor energy performance and operational issues.
