Colleagues:
Each of you is currently in the process of carrying out your annual review documentation through your home school’s process. The written annual review for all Assistant and Associate Professors, and a written review every third year for Full Professors, has been required for several years as part of Purdue Standard S-4 (https://www.purdue.edu/policies/academic-research-affairs/s4.html).
As part of our annual review process this year, we are required to collect additional information regarding Senate Enrolled Act No. 202 (Public Law 113-2024). Purdue is following this state law, which mandates that:
In accordance with Indiana law, the assessment will include consideration of the following:
1. Has the individual exposed students to scholarly works from a variety of political or ideological frameworks that may be within and applicable to the given academic discipline?
2. Has the individual refrained from subjecting students to views and opinions concerning matters not related to the discipline or assigned course of instruction?

A faculty member who is following the law as written will be able to answer “yes” to both these questions. To facilitate the collection of this information across the college, we are asking that you complete a short survey with your contact information and, if appropriate, attesting to your compliance with the policies noted above. The College of Engineering Associate Dean for Faculty will share your results with your head for further discussion during the annual review process so that it can be incorporated into a written review.
Please complete this short survey by April 30, 2025. This response is required. In future years we hope this will be integrated within the Elements system, but for this year to ensure compliance with this state law we believe this collection method will be an effective process while allowing you to reflect on your interactions with students this year in your discipline and courses of instruction.
Each faculty will get an email from Qualtrics to your purdue.edu address on Thursday Apil 10th (please make sure to check your junk email also) with an individual invitation to the survey that can only be accessed once. Once you start the two-question survey it should be completed in one setting.

This policy is documented on the College of Engineering Academic Affairs website:
https://engineering.purdue.edu/Engr/AboutUs/Administration/AcademicAffairs/Policies/SEA%20202_process.html

Sincerely,
GS
Sent on behalf of Dave Bahr, Senior Associate Dean of Faculty
