The Student Chapters of UCA (Underground Construction Association) and NASTT (North American Society of Trenchless Technology) are co-hosting a presentation titled Purdue's Chilled Water Enhancement Projects, on Thursday, September 19, 2024 - 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at PGSC 105A-B

This project includes "the installation of chilled water supply and return lines. These lines will be 36-inch diameter high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes, installed underground in a mechanically bored/drilled 8-foot diameter tunnel, approximately 15 to 20 feet below the existing surface. There will be two tunnels that converge to a common point located near the intersection of South Sheetz Street and Wood Street."

*       Learn more about Purdue's activities in above-ground asset management and buried asset management

Tom had met with Ken Jacobs to start the process of learning more about Purdue Utilities and asset management. Next step is more specific on ways to work together.

BAMI - Buried Asset Management Institute has given a grant where the University is assisting with a utility's ability to meet the March 2020 asset management legislation.

*       Explore ways to engage with Purdue's CAM personnel in the following courses: CE 520 (Construction Project Control Systems); CEM 597- Asset Management for Underground Infrastructure; CEM 597 - Development of Underground Space, Also Professor Bobet's Geotech course

*       Explore ways to initiate joint efforts with ASCE UESI (Utility Engineering and Surveying Institute) and the Buried Asset Management Institute (BAMI) to develop manual of practice (MOP) for asset management of underground infrastructure.

*       Obtain access to contract and construction documents related to Purdue's Chilled Water Enhancement Projects.

Discussed:

  1.  Overview Seminar of Project  - Late August 2024 (possible date: Friday, August 30, 2024 - 11:30 a.m. - 12:20 p.m. in HAMP)

8/30 is probably too aggressive. Maybe look at ~9/13 - 9/20, CoE to confirm

  1.  Site visit - I - During the week of Sept 16-21, Preferably on Saturday, Sept 21, 2024 - NO home game that day; 10 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Ron can find a room adjacent to the Ag Mall in the Purdue event manager. PPE may be a minor issue. Timing preferred would probably be a Friday afternoon (toward the end of 1st shift) in lieu of a Saturday. Midwest Mole needs to be onboard in case any work stoppage is needed to accommodate the site visit. CoE to confirm

  1.  Specialty seminar and student engagement- co-hosted by student chapters of UCA (Underground Construction Association) and NASTT (North American Society of Trenchless Technology)

*       Preferably during the week of October 14 - 19, 2024 - around 5:30 p.m. CoE to confirm

Can probably host in the Graduate Student Government Room (near Northwestern Parking Garage)
