Dear Engineering Heads,

I write to follow up on Arvind’s request, please continue make MDH nominations with the following criteria for Type 1 and Type 2.


  1.  At the senior hire level, we are looking for those that have won highly prestigious recognitions (according to the NRC<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.aau.edu%2Fkey-issues%2Fnational-research-council-list-highly-prestigious-awards&data=05%7C02%7Ccce-faculty-list%40ecn.purdue.edu%7Cf745da9b33594601bfa908dcd69eb8f3%7C4130bd397c53419cb1e58758d6d63f21%7C0%7C0%7C638621224399480240%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=%2FiY%2BsryhQzzX3Hkrb%2B9S40F1y%2FGJZl%2BqGfaiXY%2Bt1MA%3D&reserved=0>). In Engineering this usually includes NAE membership, NAE award recipients, membership in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Guggenheim fellowship, and others. The website above provides a comprehensive list, only a subset of which usually apply to Engineering faculty.
  2.  We are also interested in mid-career superstars – those we might hire at the Assoc Prof level, or those with a few years as full professors– here we are looking for a factual case to be made that these are (a) among the best in their field (or sub-field) in the nation among faculty at that level with excellent trajectory of success, and (b) would be in some measures/for some reason be stand out additions to your current faculty at that level.

Thank you for your strong nomination of MDH candidates in June 2024. Since we have recently received permission and clear instruction from Hovde on both open search and MDH recruitment. I’ve started to have individual conversations regarding your school’s MDH candidate nominations and will reach out to you soon.

Thanks to the strong list of names for dream hires you sent us this summer we were able to make a strong case to hire a good number of dream hires this year.

As we look to refine that list, I write to provide some more clarity on the types of nominations we look to greenlight for recruitment as dream hires:

Of that initial list of names you provided us over the summer, Luna will be in touch with you to confirm who are greenlighted to start the dream hire recruitment process. She will also be in touch to get more nominations in both types (1 and 2) above. We recognize that there may be some intersectionality between these two categories above. Please note, that as with any search, we want to see that the pool is diverse in the broadest sense of the word.
