Hello Everyone,

Doug Schmitt and I are hosting the 2024 GSA Birdsall-Dreiss Lecturer, Ben Rostron, on Oct 17 and 18 in EAPS. The Birdsall-Dreiss Distinguished Lectureship is supported by the GSA Hydrogeology Division. EAPS has hosted a few of these pre-pandemic, but this is first since the pandemic and I plan to keep EAPS involved in future lectures. Ben is planning to give 2 of his lectures while he visits Purdue. He will give the EAPS seminar talk on Thursday, Oct 17 at 3:30 in HAMP 1252 with overflow seating in HAMP 2201. That talk is titled, "Geology and hydrogeology at AQUISTORE: Canada's first CO2 storage project associated with a commercial-scale coal-fired power plant".

Ben is tentatively planning to give a second talk on Friday, Oct 18 at 2:30 in HAMP 2123. The title of that talk is, "Lithium in brines (Duperow aquifer) in southeast Saskatchewan: a modern-day gold rush".

I have attached a pdf that contains a biosketch for Ben and the abstracts for his talks. We will be arranging 30-minute individual meetings with Ben throughout the day on Thursday and we may be able to arrange some meeting on Friday morning as well. We can route the itinerary once it is completed.
