Dear all,

Please see the below NSF MRI funding announcement. If you are interested in attending a discussion group about large instrumentation needs for Birck and proposal preparation please contact Prof. Zhihong Chen (zhchen at purdue.edu<mailto:zhchen at purdue.edu>).

Limited Submission: NSF Major Research Instrumentation (MRI)<https://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2018/nsf18513/nsf18513.htm> The National Science Foundation has issued its RFP for the Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) program. The MRI Program serves to increase access to multi-user scientific and engineering instrumentation for research and research training in our Nation's institutions of higher education and not-for-profit scientific/engineering research organizations. An MRI award supports the acquisition or development of a multi-user research instrument that is, in general, too costly and/or not appropriate for support through other NSF programs.
Proposals can be submitted under two tracks:
• Track 1 MRI proposals are those that request funds from NSF greater than or equal to $100,000 and less than $1,000,000.
• Track 2 MRI proposals are those that request funds from NSF greater than or equal to $1,000,000 up to and including $4,000,000.
Proposals can be for either development (up to five years) or acquisition (up to three years) regardless of the track. Cost share is mandatory at precisely 30% of the total project cost. As in previous solicitations, an institution may submit no more than a total of three proposals with a limit of two proposals in Track 1 and one proposal in Track 2. Faculty may not participate in proposals led by other institutions beyond the three allowed. Therefore, Purdue West Lafayette faculty may not participate in any (funded) way in instrument acquisition or development proposals led by other institutions, including Purdue regional campuses, outside of the three proposals selected through Purdue’s limited submission process.

Internal deadline: October 28

Sponsor deadline: January 19

Thank you!
