Dear all,

The next BNC Faculty Seminar will be Thursday, 11/7 @ 12pm (lunch provided) in BRK 2001. Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Hugh Lee.

Hugh Lee<https://engineering.purdue.edu/LIMR/>, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering will present an overview of his work on developing highly-reliable implantable sensors and medical devices to enable connected healthcare for the first half then the remainder will be open for questions and high-level discussion of collaboration opportunities that can lead to future center of excellence and/or also brainstorm about a shared vision for Birck.

Developing highly-reliable implantable sensors and medical devices to enable connected healthcare

Abstract: Advances in engineering technology are enabling the automation of medical diagnosis and treatment. Chronically implantable electronic devices are well-poised to lead the charge in automation towards connected healthcare systems. However, developing chronically reliable implants has several grand challenges that needs to be overcome to realize this vision. Engineered solutions that can address these challenges can have enormous economic and clinical implications. In this talk, I will share our ongoing efforts to create highly reliable implantable devices using microscale sensors and actuators towards the goal of improving the diagnosis and therapy for various chronic illnesses. These examples will highlight the challenges and the potential of using connected implantable systems in the future.
