[Bnc-facility-notice] Potential Building Shutdown - Friday January 6, 2012 at 10:00AM

The failure of a relay in the Static UPS System makes the facility susceptible to a power interruption. This system must be repaired immediately to correct this situation. It is not expected that this repair will cause any interruption in power to critical tools, but there is a possibility that this could happen. Because of this possibility, it is recommended that precautions be taken by the users of the BNC.

The bypass of the system could cause a 30-40 second power interruption. Systems that will shut down due to that type of interruption include the hazardous gas delivery systems (gas cabinets), the e-beam lithography systems, the MBEs, the SEM/TEM/FIB systems, and the XPS. To guard against lost research, it is highly recommended that process runs not span the potential shutdown times.

There will be two potential shutdown times, one for the original bypass of the system and the second one for the restart of the system, about three hours later. Please arrange your schedule appropriately.

First potential shutdown: 10:00 AM Friday, January 6, 2012.

Second potential shutdown: 1:00 PM Friday, January 6, 2012.

Note: The Static UPS is the uninterruptable power supply that ensures continuous power for critical systems, spanning the time between a power interruption and the start-up of the emergency generator. Only critical building systems and certain process tools require connection to the Static UPS system. Unfortunately, those critical systems are the ones with the potential to be affected by this shutdown.
