[BNC-all] NOTICE – BNC Construction Plans: Future Research Closures & Interruptions for 2024 - 2025

Dear Birck Users,

Many of you are aware of Purdue’s Board of Trustees’ investment to upgrade Birck’s aging infrastructure and enhance our facilities. This upgrade is essential for the continued operation and modernization of our facilities.

While this presents a significant opportunity for Birck, it also means that the complexity of the project will temporarily disrupt certain research programs and projects, especially those requiring frequent cleanroom access.   We are committed to minimizing the impact on research by conducting construction in phases and maintaining certain capabilities in each core to allow for ongoing projects. Each phase has a unique construction schedule, so we have scheduled a 2-hour meeting for March 12, 2024, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm to go through the details of the plans. Due to the complexity of this project, we have asked Purdue University Physical Facilities Management and Pepper Construction to join the meeting and answer any detailed questions you may have.
This meeting is crucial for those affected by the anticipated 12-18 months of research interruptions at the Birck Center.   Additional follow-up meetings will be planned as needed.

Proactively we are completing early testing of cleanroom operations in preparation for the spring 2024 Preventative Maintenance cycle. This has been detailed, along with possible future interruptions, in the announcement sent on 2/8/2024.
