Dear Birck Users,

The Birck Nanotechnology Center (BRK) is proud to announce the construction of our cutting-edge facility, the 'Quantum Recharge Core'. As valued members of our Birck community, we cordially invite you to participate in a crucial discussion about capital investments that will drive the next wave of quantum and nanotechnology research at BRK. The meeting is scheduled on July 25, Tuesday, between 4:00-5:00 pm with the following agenda:

  1. Overview of Birck upgrades and introduce our new Research Manager, Neil Dilley (10mins, Zhihong Chen)
  2. Overview of quantum science center research and future opportunities for growth (10mins, Yong Chen)
  3. Future equipment introduction (20mins, Abhishek Solanki, Aravindh Shankar, Demid Sychev)
  4. Feedback and discussions (20mins)

The Quantum Recharge Core will be supported by Birck research scientists and open for broad user training. It will play a pivotal role in advancing our capabilities and fostering collaborations in the Birck community and across the Purdue campus. During the meeting, we will explore various avenues for BRK capital investments. Following is a list of potential capital equipment for discussion.

1. QNAMI: Nitrogen-Vacancy Scanning Microscope with cryogenic temperatures and 0.5 T magnetic field:
Quantum sensing experiments enabled by a turn-key commercial tool with scanning NV tips.

2. Dilution Refrigerator for Optical and Electrical Transport/RF Measurements at mK Range:
The Quantum Recharge Core will house a state-of-the-art dilution refrigerator donated by Prof. Yong P Chen, that enables precise optical and electrical transport measurements at millikelvin temperatures.

3. New Optical Setups with up to 7 Tesla Magnetic Field and Liquid Helium Temperatures:
We will discuss advanced optical setups with a powerful 7 Tesla magnetic field and liquid helium temperatures. These setups will open doors to groundbreaking research opportunities and contribute significantly to our understanding of quantum phenomena at cryogenic temperatures.

  1. 7 Tesla out-of-plane (OOP) magnetic field.
  2. Confocal Microscope with 532nm excitation source.
  3. FPGA-based Arbitrary waveform generator.
  4. Princeton Instruments Spectrometer for Raman Measurements
  5. Laser-Driven Tunable light source for widely tunable excitation source for optical cavities.
  6. Magneto-Optical Kerr Effect measurements.

4. THz Measurements at Cryogenic Temperatures:
The Quantum Recharge Core aims to explore the development of terahertz (THz) measurements at cryogenic temperatures.

  1. Hollow-core fiber for ~15fs laser pulses that can be used for pump-probe experiments and THz generation ~10 THz.
  2. Commercial THz source, detector, and optics for 0.1-6THz range.

We believe that your valuable insights and expertise are crucial to the success of these initiatives. Your active participation in the discussions will help shape the future of nanotechnology and quantum research at Birck.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at the meeting in-person or virtually!
