ALL-USER MEETING
Did you miss the All-User Meeting?
You have until Friday March 31st to go through the slideshow with your professor and hand in the signed paper work to BRK 1220. http://www.purdue.edu/discoverypark/birck/operations/safety.php has the slideshow and paperwork you need to fill out.

Loud Noises Outside BRK 1080, 1084, 1088, and 1090

A user reported loud and annoying noises outside of these offices. The facility engineer checked and didn't notice it, so if the person who wrote this input on the survey could come forward we would be glad to listen again and discuss the corrective action plan.

NANODAYS
Purdue's Birck Nanotechnology Center has an exciting volunteer opportunity for students in the technical, education, and management fields. Participants will have the opportunity to:

· Gain professional experience explaining scientific concepts to people from non-technical backgrounds.

· Support the future of STEM programs by introducing grade schoolers and high school students to the miniscule world of atoms, molecules, and nanoscale forces.

· Participate with other students/researchers in a nationwide festival celebrating nanotechnology science and education.

Since 2010, the Birck Nanotechnology Center at Discovery Park has participated in NISE NanoDays, a program that promotes science and technology education nationwide. Volunteers will staff activity stations and assist visitors as they investigate different scientific concepts. Some example activities for 2017 include static electricity, DNA, and ultraviolet light. No prior knowledge is required to volunteer, just an enthusiasm for science and science education.

Local vendors will be providing food for volunteer training and all three days of the event.

Volunteers can attend any or all of the following shifts:
Wednesday: 4/5/17, 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM

Thursday: 4/6/17, 8:45 AM - 11:30 AM
                                4/6/17, 11:15 AM - 2:00 PM

Friday: 4/7/17, 8:45 AM - 11:30 AM
4/7/17, 11:15 AM - 2:00 PM

Training is mandatory and will be provided in the Birck atrium. The schedule is:
Tuesday: 3/28/17, 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM (Pizza Party)
  6:00 PM - 7:30 PM (Training Sessions)

Questions can be directed to volunteer coordinators Joon Park (park218 at purdue.edu<mailto:park218 at purdue.edu>), Justin Wirth (jcwirth at purdue.edu<mailto:jcwirth at purdue.edu>), and Sean Rinehart (srinehar at purdue.edu<mailto:srinehar at purdue.edu>).

Notification of Equipment Status

A user asked if iLabs has the capability to notify users that equipment is not available for processing. This feature does exist but is not yet being used universally. As iLabs comes completely up and has totally replaced Coral we will use this feature.

Seminar
It is once again our pleasure to extend a warm invitation to the 34th Herbert C. Brown Lectures in Organic Chemistry at Purdue University.
Date: Friday, April 14, 2017
Time: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM (EST)
Location: Stewart Center (STEW) 218

This year's event promises to be an exciting day celebrating and honoring the career of Professor H.C. Brown. The program includes a diverse array of topics from the fields of synthetic and physical Organic Chemistry by a distinguished group of plenary speakers:

Jeffrey Bode, ETH Zürich: "Protein Synthesis with the KAHA Ligation"

Samuel Gellman, University of Wisconsin - Madison: "Impact of Backbone Modifications on the Information Content of Peptidic Foldamers"

Kazunori Kataoka, The University of Tokyo: "Fantastic Voyage by Supramolecular Nanosystems: Challenge from Polymer Chemistry Toward Smart Targeted Therapy of Intractable Diseases"

Scott J. Miller, Yale University: "Searching for Selective Catalytic Reactions in Complex Molecular Environments"

All interested students, faculty, and scientists are welcome to attend. Registration is free, and includes lunch for all participants who register by Friday, April 7, 2017. We also encourage student participants to present their recent works at our poster session and competition, with prizes awarded for the best posters.
