[BNC-all] New e-beam tool for Birck! - please do not distribute to non-Purdue people

Dear all,

Through the start-up funds of Prof. Bhave and Prof. Weinstein as well as generous support from Discovery Park, EVPRP and Birck, we have been able to purchase a new e-beam tool for Birck. This is a newly developed system with state-of-the-art capabilities (please see attached). In addition, we have negotiated a partnership agreement with Jeol that will make Birck and Purdue a central node in the country. We expect companies and researchers to access this tool about 1-2 times per month (Jeol will compensate us for this), which is also likely to generate good publicity for us. Furthermore, we have also negotiated four (4) years of full support for the tool up front. Jeol has agreed to place at least one service engineer stationed in Chicago for quick response to our needs.

We expect the new tool to arrive to Purdue by the end of June 2017. The timing depends a bit on clearing customs and other paperwork. In the meantime we will be working on preparing the Birck facilities for this. Since this new tool will replace our VB6, we will need to discontinue usage of the VB6 a few months before the arrival of the new system to prepare the space and make the necessary repairs and modifications to the stage. Once we know more, we will share details.

We are currently under an NDA with Jeol about this, so this email and the attachment are only for us within Purdue. Please do not share this information with non-Purdue people yet. Once some final details are figured out, there will be a press release from Jeol and Purdue that will include more details. We expect this to happen around December 2016.
