MANDELA WASHINGTON FELLOWSHIP
Purdue University will host 25 of Africa's brightest emerging leaders for an academic and leadership institute focused on business and entrepreneurship from June 17 to July 29, 2016. The Mandela Washington Fellowship, the flagship program of President Obama's Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), empowers young African leaders through academic coursework, leadership training, mentoring, networking, professional opportunities, and support for activities in their communities. Purdue's Mandela Washington Fellows represent 18 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa. They are CEOs, entrepreneurs, engineers, farmers, and business people representing the fields of agribusiness, engineering, and information technology. Fellows have indicated specific interests in post-harvest losses, food processing, biotechnology, livestock production, agricultural mechanization, energy issues, and STEM education. The cohort of Fellows at Purdue will be part of a larger group of 1,000 Mandela Washington Fellows hosted across the US this summer.
