ANNOUNCEMENTS 



NanoDays are here! April 2 and 3, 2010, 10:00AM to 3:00PM. 

We've invited k-12 students from across the State and the general public to visit and take part in educational activities about nanoscale science and engineering. 

PLEASE BE SURE TO LOCK YOUR OFFICES WHEN YOU ARE AWAY. UNUSED CONFERENCE ROOMS WILL BE LOCKED ON SATURDAY. 



IRS AUDIT 

An IRS Audit is expected to begin in about a week, and will continue for about a year. The IRS investigators will be moving about campus looking for situations where Purdue equipment, facilities, or staff are being used for activities that might be considered taxable. This gets into some murky areas of tax law that are unfamiliar to most individuals. The IRS investigators may not identify themselves as such, and may ask seemingly innocuous questions. ALL such queries should be directed to Ken Wilson ( kjwilson1 at purdue.edu ; 47366). 



Copiers/Printers : Please use any one of Birck’s three copiers [BRK 1020, 1222, 2020] instead of desktop printers whenever possible. If you need assistance in setting up your computer to print to these, please contact ECN [PC users: dpsite at ecn.purdue.edu ; MAC users machelp at ecn.purdue.edu ]. If your research group needs a code, please contact Melissa [ lanem at purdue.edu ], Annie [ acheever at purdue.edu ], or Nancy [ blackn at purdue.edu ]. 












FACULTY NEWS 

Kudos! Purdue professors selected for U.S. State Department fellowships 


Two Purdue professors have received Jefferson Science Fellowships from the U.S. Department of State, where their expertise and insights will help guide U.S. foreign policy. Selected as 2010 fellows were Suresh Garimella, the R. Eugene and Susie E. Goodson Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering, and Jay Gore, the Reilly Professor of Combustion Engineering and director of the Energy Center in Purdue's Discovery Park. GRADUATE STUDENTS 

HKN Paintball Trip 

Eta Kappa Nu (also known as HKN), the electrical and computer engineering honor society, will be sponsoring the once per semester paintball trip. This will be held April 3rd, from noon til 4pm at the paintball barn (website here ). The cost to you will be $25, payable at time of registration. 


To sign up for the event, go to the HKN lounge (EE 24) and fill out the form, and give it and your money to the person working behind the desk. Also fill out the waiver forms for paintball barn and HKN. More details will be emailed to you closer to the event. Alternatively, if you run into Rob Wortman in his office at Birck (2222), he will be able to get you signed up. 


This event has always been a lot of fun in the past, and Rob will be working hard to make this the best trip yet. Please try out this game of strategy and excitement, if you haven't already!

Birck Nanotechnology Center staff will be notified of an emergency situation by telephone in the order set out in the BNC’s Phone Tree. BNC faculty members will receive an e-mail message from Monica Allain or Tim Sands. 

Members of the Faculty (Professors and Research Professors) are responsible for contacting each of their group members, including graduate students, undergraduate researchers, postdoctoral fellows and research scientists. Specific instructions should be conveyed by phone if possible. All graduate students should register for the Purdue University e-mail alert system at http://news.uns.purdue.edu/mail.html .
