As of July 1, the previous 435 smoking areas on campus will have been decreased to 21, and smoking will be permitted only in these designated areas. Most campus buildings are no more than a five-minute walk from a designated smoking area. (Please note: the designated areas have changed slightly and decreased from 22 to 21. See the Web site for the updated map.)

FACULTY NEWS 






KUDOS: Professor JAMES LEARY has been selected for the 2010 Life Sciences Award by Christopher Columbus Foundation, US Chamber of Commerce. Jim will be awarded the prize in Washington DC on July 13, 2010. 











Nominations are being sought for the 2010 CICP Faculty Commercialization Award . [ More Info ] 

The nominations should be submitted to me by August 13, 2010 . Nominations can be sent electronically ( jas at purdue.edu ), faxed (4-8323) or sent campus mail (VPR/HOVD). The award is expected to be presented on November 4, 2009.

The Purdue Global Policy Institute (GPRI), lead by Arden Bement, in partnership with the Office of the Vice President for Research, requests seed grant proposals for three types of activities. Letters of intent are due by August 15, 2010, while the proposal deadline is September 20, 2010.

Birck Nanotechnology Center staff will be notified of an emergency situation by telephone in the order set out in the BNC’s Phone Tree. BNC faculty members will receive an e-mail message from Monica Allain or Jim Cooper. 




Members of the Faculty (Professors and Research Professors) are responsible for contacting each of their group members, including graduate students, undergraduate researchers, postdoctoral fellows and research scientists. Specific instructions should be conveyed by phone if possible. All graduate students should register for the Purdue University e-mail alert system at http://news.uns.purdue.edu/mail.html .
