CCAM Seminar Series on "Mathematics and Numerics of Fluid Dynamics with
an Emphasis on Complex Fluids"

Title: Simulation of Complex Fluids using Dissipative Particle Dynamics

Speaker: Professor George Karniadakis, Brown University

Time and place: Friday March 2, 3:30pm at UNIV 103

Abstract:
Dissipative Particle Dynamics (DPD) is a relatively new
mesoscopic method particularly suitable for simulating biopolymers.
It is a coarsed grained molecular dynamics method and exhibits
both thermal fluctuations but also hydrodynamics behavior. In this
presentation, I will review some of the recent advances but also the
limitations due to boundary conditions and extreme coarse graining.
Examples will be given for DNA dynamics in nanochannels and modeling of
red
blood cells at the nanometer scale.
