OriginPro Installation

Purdue University's licensing agreement with OriginLab accommodates the installation and use of Origin software on any Purdue-owned computer, on computers owned by enrolled Purdue students, and on computers owned by faculty and staff affiliated with Purdue University.

The license allows two different installation methods and requires administrator privileges to license:

  1. Fixed systems with a persistent connections on a Purdue campus network.
  2. Portable computers (laptops) and "home" computers.

Installation Instructions

If your system is maintained by ECN, use the ContactUs webpage to request the Origin software to be installed on your system.
https://engineering.purdue.edu/ECN/AboutUs/ContactUs

The following instructions are for "self-supported" systems.

Download the latest Origin software from https://engineering.purdue.edu/PULS under Visualization software.

After downloading the software from PULS double click on the .exe file to start the installation.

After reading and accepting the License Agreement (if you still want to install it), Select the "Install Product (requires serial number)" and click Next. Check/complete the User Name (enter your name) and Company Name (use "Purdue University") fields and then copy/paste the appropriate Serial Number (see below) and click Next.

There are two different serial numbers for Purdue's Origin license:

   1) For computers with persistent connections to the Purdue network,
such as desktop machines on the academic campus or in residence
hall rooms with Purdue network connections, use this number:
      GF3S4-3089-7902990

   2) For all others, such as laptop computers on which you'll use
OriginPro while disconnected from the Purdue network or "home"
computers without direct connections to the Purdue network, use:
      GF3S4-6089-7602155
Note that to use this license you must to register with OriginLab
via their web site as part of the licensing process.

If everything is correct the next screen asks to select "Yes, Launch Origin as administrator after the installation finishes.". Make sure that box is checked and click on Next. Choose 32 or 64bit. The default should be what will work best. Any modern machine should use 64-bit. Specify the destination directory and click Next. It will probably need to create the directory. Answer the question about help files; the default ("online") is good if you have a decent network connection. Select/use "All users" unless you have some reason not to. The default program folder path should be fine. Select Next and Next again to start the installation/copying of files. It can take a while to install everything. Once the setup is complete. Make sure the box to "Launch Origin now as administrator to complete licensing...". Click on "Learn more about Origin online..." if you desire. Click on Finish. Origin will launch. Select the "User Files Folder" you want. The default is normally fine. Click OK when done.

License Configuration

The information requested on the License Information window depends on the serial number that you entered earlier:

Network/Campus license

Use the following data to fill in the fields:

FLEXlm Server:  marina.ecn.purdue.edu
TCP/IP Port:    1707

then click the Update button.

A window should appear asserting that "License file successfully updated." You will then be asked to register, which is highly recommended. It allows you to get the latest patches and files to keep your application up to date. Go through the process on the web page that comes up to register. Follow the directions.

Portable/Home computers

When the "Registering and Obtaining a License File" window appears, select "Get a license file online now.  This computer has internet access."

After you click OK, you should see a "Computer ID" window revealing your unique Computer ID number and the serial number that you entered earlier.

When you click OK, an "Enter License" window will appear and your web browser will go to the OriginLab web site and you'll need to register to obtain the necessary license file. After registering you get to the "License Delivery Restrictions" web page.

OriginLab will honor requests for ipfw.edu, pnc.edu and purdue.edu (including calumet.purdue.edu) addresses.

When your registration is completed, the web page will MIGHT say "License Delivery Restrictions". Use the following info if it does:

Access Code: 985772
E-Mail Fragment: @purdue.edu

Click on "Submit". The next page will generated a license. Copy that entire string to the clipboard. Go back to your OriginPro application and paste that string into the "Enter License" window. Click OK. You should be told your license was accepted (you will also receive a email about it). Click OK. A "Starter Tips" window will open. You can transfer your files from previous versions with the "Transfer User Files Now" button if you want. You should click on "Check for updates now" button (and occasionally in the future, under the Help menu) to install all the latest patches and updates to the application. Once its done installing all the latest patches and files you are ready to use the application.
