New Drive Mappings in ECN

ECN will be mapping the W: and U: drive for system use,
starting May 1st, 2011.

If you are currently mapping a windows share to either W: or
U:, please move the share to another drive mapping before
May 1st, 2011.

ECN is starting the work to align our ECN domain drive
mappings with the SmartComputing and OnePurdue
domain drive mappings, in conjunction with our move to
the Windows 7 Operating system.

In an attempt to minimize the problems in transitioning to
new drive mappings, we are implementing the following
changes to the current drive mappings for the ECN domain.

Your mapping for your ITaP Career Share (currently on
Rosetta or Stone) will be moved from R: to W:
Your ECN home directory will be mapped to both N: and U:
Your pchome directory will be mapped to both P: and R:

NOTE: R: will change from mapping your ITaP career account
share to mapping your pchome directory

The shared mappings to exist for at least a year, and then the
old mappings for N: and P: will be released for other uses.

As new windows packages are created for distribution to our
supported clients, the packages will be configured to use the
new drive mappings.  Any changes to the windows logon and
logoff scripts  will also be configured for the new drive mappings.

These changes should allow us an orderly transition to the new
drive mappings and to Windows 7.  At the end of the transition
period, any older packages which are not being updated will
either be archived or reworked for the new drive mappings.

A week prior to implementation, we will run scripts as part
of the logon script to try to determine what drive mappings
you have which may still have in conflict, so that your site
specialist
can assist you with the move. These steps should
remediate most of the issues.  There may still be a few outliers
affected when the change is implemented, depending upon
how the old drive mappings are implemented.
