ECN Accounts: Retrieving a Lost File Using flost
If you wish to restore a file that is no longer in the tomb, or was for some
reason not entombed, you may use flost to request that a file be
retrieved from backup tape.
But before using flost, try retrieving your destroyed files with
unrm
command.
The flost approach may be successful if:
- the file existed for at least 24 hours before being deleted, and
- has been deleted for no more than a month ago
To use flost type the command:
or use the web-based version at /ECN/services/flost.% flost
Flost will ask you a series of questions about how and when the file was deleted. Giving specific information in response to these questions makes it more likely that the file will be recovered.
