While the fields of Electrical and Computer Engineering overlap in the areas of architecture and circuits, Electrical Engineering stands apart with its focus on transistors and antennas with applications in physics, chemistry, biology, and math. Computer Engineering expands into application software and system software..

Undergraduate Programs

Electrical and Computer engineering encompasses all areas of research, development, design, and operation of electrical and electronic systems and their components, including software. Emphasis in such varied areas as bioengineering, circuit theory, communication sciences, computers and automata, control systems, electromagnetic fields, energy sources and systems, and materials and electronic devices is available. Two degree programs are offered by the School: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCmpE).

Research

The School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) has a rich history of research and education that dates back to 1888. Many landmark innovations in radiotelephony, television, and electric power were developed by Purdue faculty - innovations that have helped shape the modern world. In that same tradition of research excellence, our ECE faculty continues to pioneer new technical frontiers. With more than 80 of the nation's finest researchers, ECE faculty and students have published hundreds of papers during the year in top quality journals and conference proceedings.

Course Information

All ECE undergraduate courses have Learning Objectives which are mapped to the Student Outcomes [1-7] of the BSEE and BSCmpE degree programs. NOTE: "Counts as:" attributes are for the Fall 2019 catalog term and forward (except for ECE 20100, 20200, 20700, 20800, and 25500), although there are minimal differences for earlier catalog terms. Please consult your academic advisor for catalog terms prior to Fall 2019.
