Cognitive and Autonomous Test Vehicle (CAT Vehicle)
NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates

Are you interested in being paid to learn how to program a car to drive itself this summer? Or learning how cognitive radio technology is enabling inter-vehicle communication? This research experience for undergraduates (REU) permits students to engage with the myriad of applications that are related to autonomous ground vehicles.

The intellectual focus of the program includes the following research topics:

* Embedded control systems and algorithms;
* Wireless networks;
* Cognitive radio;
* Sensory data processing and sensor fusion;
* Model-based design for component-based systems;
* Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication; and
* Scalability of algorithms/systems (multi-vehicle, multi-device).

Students need not have existing expertise in these areas, a background sufficient for standing as an engineering or computer science/mathematics junior or senior will be sufficient.

Important Information
* Funded by the National Science Foundation
 ** 10 students will be supported for 10 weeks
 ** Stipend of $5,000 over the summer
* Free room, partial food support and $600 travel allowance to Tucson, AZ
* Program Dates: June 4th -- August 12th, 2015
* Hosted by the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of the University of Arizona
* Each student will receive letters of recommendation from their REU
 faculty mentors

Eligibility

* US Citizen or permanent resident
* Rising junior or senior in engineering, computer science, or mathematics
* Have strong software skills
* GPA of at least 2.9

Preference will be given to students who are interested in research, and considering an advanced degree. Members of under-represented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
