Student volunteer recruitment for a paid user study

Priority: No
College Calendar: Show

Professor Saurabh Bagchi  (ECE) and Professor He Wang (CS).are conducting a user study for an NSF-supported mobile crowdsensing project. Mobile crowdsensing allows one to create a map of some parameter of our physical spaces (such as, sound level or barometric pressure) using the sensors on our smartphones. Such information often has a societal benefit (such as, forecasting tornadoes or avoiding routes with excessively high sound level).

50 participants are needed.  Each participant will receive an Amazon gift card of $50. Participants only need to have an Android smartphone (Android 8.0 or higher is preferred), install 4 apps, and use the phone as usual. To ensure you can receive the gift card, you will also need to physically sign your name with the graduate student in EE 34.

The apps will take your GPS location, environment sensors’ values like barometer, light, and magnetic field for a certain time during the day, and any open devices within Bluetooth vicinity on your smartphone. No user information will be associated with this collected information, only by the identification number of the phone (IMEI number), which itself is anonymized through secure hashing.
