Rice University hosting Undergraduate Research Symposium

Rice is hosting the Gulf Coast Undergraduate Research Symposium (GCURS) on Oct. 22. The purpose of the symposium is to give a platform to undergraduates to present on the original research they are doing, and to meet like-minded students at other universities. Students interested in pursuing careers in academia, or who are considering graduate study, would benefit most from the presentation experience.
The application is now open-advisors are welcome to accompany their students as well as serve as judges. Some travel awards are available. The application deadline is Mon. Oct. 3. In previous years we have been able to accommodate everyone who wanted to speak, but if capacity becomes limiting we will select participants on the basis of submitted abstracts. Meals will be provided on the day of the symposium, and funding is available to support lodging for early applicants.
The symposium format is 15-min oral PowerPoint presentations. Past participants have said that giving formal presentations in a multi-institution event is more interesting and valuable than either an in-house presentation series or regional conference poster session.
This is the same week as the Grace Hopper Celebration for Women in Computing - the largest gathering of women in tech, also being held in Houston. If your students or colleagues are attending, we would love to have them stay an extra day to attend GCURS.
