Job Description:

This is an exciting engineering career opportunity in Detector Engineering. You will be part of a team of engineers and scientists responsible for the test and characterization of CCD- and CMOS-based detectors and related focal plane subsystems. Responsibilities include the design, build-up, operation, and certification of electronic-based test systems used to characterize the DC and EO performance of CCD- and CMOS-based detectors for use in tactical and space-based applications. You will write and implement firmware/software to optimize the performance of the detector in a camera system. This position requires the applicant to debug software, firmware, and electronic related problems in established detector test systems and, to assist in the debug of detector-based flight instruments.

Requirements:

  • Education Requirements:
    • BS in Engineering or a related technical field, such as Electrical Engineering or Physics, is strongly preferred plus 2 or more years related experience.
    • 2 or more years of hands-on experience with CCD or CMOS detectors or detector-based instruments is desired
    • In addition to the typical educational and experience requirements, a demonstrated capability to adequately perform the essential functions and responsibilities of the position and exhibit the skills and competencies of the grade level should be considered.
    • Each higher-level degree, i.e. Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience.
    • Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Skills Required:
  • Experience designing and debugging complex electronic test systems: low-noise analog signal processing electronics and high-speed/low noise analog-to-digital acquisition systems
  • Experience modeling detector performance
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with detectors
  • Experience with mechanical packaging of detectors and associated thermal and contamination constraints.
  • Matlab, LabView, C/C++, VHDL or Verilog programming
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  • Aid in the development of test equipment (electronics, software, mechanical fixtures) for detector characterization
  • Aid in the test and evaluation of cutting-edge imaging detectors including test setup design pursuant to measuring the unique characteristics of a given detector or camera
  • FPGA design for electro-optical test equipment and camera systems including detector control, image acquisition, and data processing
  • Use of custom electronics and software to operate the detector
  • Use of electrical test equipment to debug problems
  • Optical setup including lenses, optical test equipment, and light sources
