AMOS Awards Scholarship Opportunity

Priority: No

Application Matters for Our Students (AMOS) Awards Criteria and Instructions to Apply

Deadline for Fall 2015 Application: Aug. 1, 2015

The AMOS awards are available to Purdue undergraduate students who are active participants in the Purdue Institute for Civic Communication (PICC) and who seek experience in applying what they have learned in a relevant professional opportunity consistent with the PICC mission of promoting good citizenship and contributions to society.

These merit awards help students to fund internships that are unpaid or offering only a nominal stipend (under $2,000). Preference will be given to opportunities in Washington, DC, and to pursuits in the areas of issues study, civic communication, public affairs and media.

Eligible students must fully demonstrate that they have been current, active and meaningful participants and contributors in the PICC, the nonpartisan, experiential learning initiative, for at least one semester before they apply.

Applications must include:

  • An 800-word essay on the importance of the opportunity the student is pursuing.
  • Proof that the student has accepted or will soon accept the opportunity.
  • An accompanying letter of commitment from the student that s/he will complete the opportunity.
  • At the conclusion of the internship or other opportunity, a report of 500 words on the value of the opportunity to the student.

A panel chaired by Ambassador Curiel will judge applications. Finalists must make themselves available for a face-to-face or video interview with at least one judge.

The maximum award is $4,000 for summer sessions and $6,000 for fall or winter semester recipients, minus any applicable taxes and outstanding Purdue University obligations.

Applications must be written in 12-point Arial font, single-spaced, printed on one-side only, with name, Purdue University identification number and contact information (Purdue and personal email and phone number) on top. Hard copy must be delivered to the office of Julie Wise, Manager of the PICC, in Young Hall, room 455. An electronic copy must be emailed to curiel@purdue.edu. Please cc Julie Wise on your electronic submission (jlwise@purdue.edu).

Deadline for the fall 2015 semester is Aug. 1, 2015. No late applications will be accepted.
