Catalog Description:

With the speed of CMOS technology relatively saturated due to fundamental limits, quantum computation seems to be the next landmark technology in computing. By relying on quantum principles and properties such as superposition and entanglement, Quantum Computers demonstrate an almost miraculous capacity to solve seemingly insurmountable problems. As the research and development in Quantum Computers flourishes, there is a strong need to place the accompanying interfacing, readout and electronic control circuitry near the Quantum Core (at a few milli-Kelvins) for scalability and performance - leading to an entirely new paradigm of CMOS-based circuits, namely Cryo-CMOS. The purpose of this course is to prepare potential circuit and systems engineers for this new field by introducing them to the state-of-the-art in Cryo-CMOS, starting with basic understanding of quantum circuits and overview of quantum circuit design, followed by its implementation in different practical quantum circuits and their operating principles.
