Requisites:

Prerequisite: ECE 61010. Co-requisites: Either ECE 51012 or ECE 61000.

Requisites by Topic:

Knowledge of the theory of operation of permanent magnet synchronous machines (brushless DC machines); a basic knowledge of electromagnetic fields. Background in single- or multi-objective optimization using genetic algorithms. Familiar with MATLAB and writing MATLAB scripts and functions.

Catalog Description:

This course focuses on the design of electromagnetic and electromechanical systems, with power applications. The course includes optimization methods, modeling techniques for design (as opposed to for simulation), and the formulation of design problems as optimization problems.
