Old Dominion University
Tenure Track Faculty Position (Open Rank)
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Old Dominion University (ODU) has an opening for a new faculty.
The ECE department seeks outstanding candidates at open rank in the area of Smart Grids. Specific areas of smart grid research include Computational intelligence and the integration of Renewable Energy sources into smart grids. These areas will reinforce existing strengths in cybersecurity, control systems, cyberphysical systems, power electronics and photovoltaics devices. Candidates must possess a PhD in electrical or computer engineering or a related discipline, and must demonstrate the potential to build a strong research program and for excellence in teaching. A strong research record is expected for senior level candidates. The candidate will be expected to teach in the computer engineering area.
The ECE Department has 25 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, over 400 undergraduate students, and over 120 graduate students. It offers BS in electrical engineering and computer engineering, and MS, ME, and PhD degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering. The ECE department has been ranked in the top 25% nationally by the NSF, for federally funded research by the NSF.
The ODU main campus is located in the city of Norfolk, which is the home to the largest naval base in the US, and is the financial and cultural hub of the Hampton Roads region which extends from Virginia Beach to Colonial Williamsburg. The greater Hampton Roads region has a population of over 1.7 million and a diverse scientific and industrial base including NASA Langley Research Center, DOE Jefferson Laboratory, Newport News Shipbuilding, Dominion Virginia Power, tourism, and commercial ports. ODU is also located in the proximity of the major DoD and federal funding agencies.
The desired start date is July 25, 2017 or sooner.
