Graduate Research Assistant - Programming
Description:
The student in this position will work in a collaborative environment and perform programming tasks related to digital soil mapping. The student assistant will help with geospatial and tabular data management and systematization, data processing and analysis, and manage a lab website. The student is expected to help improve data processing in the lab through parallel computing and scripting. The student should be hard-working, self-motivated, and able to work independently as well as in a team.
Experience:
- Experience with ArcGIS or another GIS software
- Experience with Linux
- Experience with Microsoft Access and Excel
- Experience with Matlab
- Ability to write job scripts in Python and C++
- Experience with parallel computing
- Ability to learn new software and tools
- Ability to write clear and detailed technical guides for tasks performed
- Familiarity with soil science and geomorphology is preferred but not required.
Majors / Year:
Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering.
First or second year Master’s or PhD student.
Hours:
20 hours per week. The start date will be the first or second week of January 2016.
Pay:
50% graduate assistantship for one year with the possibility of extension to three years.
