About this workshop
Working across countries and cultures is increasingly a necessity for engineers, regardless of whether they pursue careers in industry or the academy. This interactive workshop is designed to introduce engineers to foundational concepts and strategies needed to enhance their global competency and mobility. The content is organized around two key topics: 1) Engineering Cultures, a conceptual framework that improves the ability of participants to identify and understand national and regional differences in what it means to practice as a technical professional, and 2) Problem Solving with People, a participant observation strategy that enables professionals to systematically identify, understand, and negotiate the kinds of conflicting perspectives that often arise when diverse groups of people come together to solve problems.
