Controls/electrical engineer opening to work with process controls systems including programmable logic controllers, including HMI interface

We are currently representing an exceptional opportunity for a controls and automation technical specialist with the world’s largest producer of functional proteins, an industry leader that pioneered in development of proteins for use as feed additives to promote growth, health, and disease resistance in cattle, horses, poultry, swine, and companion animals. These feed additive products are well-received world wide today.

This privately held company is a highly successful leader in proteins: with multiple affiliated companies focused on animal feed ingredients, meat ingredients, meat, poultry, and dairy by-products, nutritional therapies, medical foods, and protein based materials for diagnostics, life science, and veterinary research and development.  This highly successful company has multiple processing operations (5) and collection sites (50) in the US, with plans for further plant growth in the next one to two years.

This industry leader seeks a technical professional for the following opportunity, located in a thriving Midwestern city (Des Moines Iowa) at the corporate office. Full relocation will be provided.

The Corporate process controls engineer will provide support for all processing operations in all plants and sites (about 50 collection sites around the country), with emphasis on knowledge of distributed control systems (DCS). Travel will be 40%.

Knowledge of DCS (distributed control systems) to include programming, processors, controllers, proprietary interconnections, and communications protocol, input and output module formation, computer or electrical buses that connect processor and modules through multiplexers or for HMI (human machine interface) and/or PLC (programmable logic controls) consoles. Comprehensive knowledge of programming is desired.

You will participate in process controls equipment installation and repair projects  including executing and tracking all phases of controls projects,. project commissioning, startup, and close out.  Field support will require on site presence or will be conducted remotely, depending on situation. This position will require approximately 40% travel.


Controls /Software Programming

This organization seeks skills in technical areas including knowledge of process and controls systems and software programming for distributed controls systems, and skills may include:


1--Auto Cad- Knowledge of AutoCAD , computer aided design software/preferably AutoCAD electrical
2-- Experience with use of AutoCad for electrical ladder diagrams, control panel electrical overviews, power distribution and P & ID views
3--PLC Programmable Logic Controllers,  knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC's preferred.
4--Control Logic Software Diagrams-the ability to read and develop control logic diagrams
5--PLC Software--Knowledge of  programming languages, such as ladder logic/ RSLogix 500 programming/ Knowledge of programming, debugging for on site start-ups. Continuing maintenance support of PLC's, including programming to upgrade controls, and the ability to handle conversions to newer software/
6--HMI Software-- Human Machine Interface software such as Rockwell Automation Factory Talk View Machine Edition (ME)
7== HMI software-Experience with "Ignition Software" by Inductive Automation.
8--HMI Software-Experience with Wonderware Intouch Programming Software
9--Experience in designing HMI interface applications for the "Panel View Plus Line" of HMI displays as well as troubleshooting of existing units.Panel View Applications (legacy systems), ladder logix
10-- SQL--Structured Query language-knowledge of special purpose programming for relational data bases such as MySQL, SQL, Server, etc  to update or  modify the data base
11-- Knowledge of process to maintain and improve "Process Historian Databases", for data related to company suppliers and production facilities.
12-- Hart Communicators knowledge::HART (Highway Addressable Remote Transducer) Protocol is the global standard for sending and receiving digital information across analog wires between smart devices and control or monitoring system.
13--Knowledge of electrical control panel design and troubleshooting
14--Basic knowledge of electronics and circuitry
15-- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software,


40% travel in the field, with field support performed both on site and by remote access
must be willing to work extended hours including extended hours. evenings, some holidays and weekends

in this key engineering role. past experience in a food processing or bio-processing environment is preferred, with dairy or meat processing experience desired. Experience in work in a large scale manufacturing plant, preferably in a meat processing and harvest operation is desired. Experience with dairy processes, fermentation processes, or other biological processes are also a plus/.
 
Some experience in working independently in the field and in managing projects is desired. Additionally, the qualified candidate will demonstrate current and up-to-date date knowledge of industry trends and developments in technical aspects of controls engineering.

The corp controls engineer will demonstrate positive, effective communications, and will be an effective team player and collaborator; acting as a resource and troubleshooter in all controls engineering areas, and demonstrating well developed verbal and written communication skills. The ability to juggle and respond to multiple tasks at the same time will be essential.

An Associates degree in Automation and Controls Technology, Industrial Software  Applications,  Manufacturing Controls Technology,
or BS/MS in electrical, chemical,  mechanical, bioprocessing, or related engineering practice or in computer science is required.
