Research Staff Member, Machine Learning Group, IBM Research, Yorktown Heights, NY

The Machine Learning group within the Cognitive Computing Department at IBM's T. J. Watson Research Center has multiple openings for the position of Research Staff Member.  Recent and experienced PhD graduates with strong publication records in machine learning and significant technical leadership potential are encouraged to apply.

The candidate is expected to conduct world-class research on new machine learning techniques, publish in top-tier conferences and journals, and work with the IBM Watson Group to transfer relevant technology into future Watson offerings.

We are seeking candidates with a proven background and experience in dealing with real world data in one or more of the following areas: kernel methods, deep learning, large-scale machine learning, unsupervised and semi-supervised techniques, reinforcement learning, online learning, and related areas. We are particularly interested in candidates with skills necessary to apply machine learning to address complex cognitive tasks arising in natural language understanding, dialog, exam-taking, automatic text generation and summarization, and understanding technical documents.

The position requires a Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field, strong programming skills, and experience in using machine learning environments (e.g., R, scikit-learn, Theano / Torch).  Strong communication skills are essential.
