Position: Undergraduate Senior or Beginning Graduate Student Research Project for the Summer or Fall, 2017

Summary: This position relates to new biomedical research methods for the deep tissue optical imaging of arteries in the mouth. The researcher will assist in and perform experiments using lasers and a CCD camera. The researcher may also use and develop software for processing the experimental data according to their skills and interests. The research project can be limited to the summer, however, it could be extended into a thesis chapter. Course credit is possible. Successful completion of the project will result in conference and journal publications for the researcher. Once completed, there is potential for commercialization of the work.
Specific responsibilities include:
-Understand the goals and methods of the research project
- Perform experiments using an intensified CCD camera and high power pulsed lasers
- Process the experimental data so that it can be used with our image processing codes
- Participate in group meetings and discussions pertaining to the research project
Qualifications we desire:
- Knowledge of or experience with optical experiments involving lasers and CCD cameras
- Basic understanding of fields and optics
- Proficiency with MATLAB, C/C++, and LaTeX
- Strong communication skills and willingness to work in a team setting
- Strong academic record
