Academic Workshop for Graduate and PostDoc Women

Priority: No

Dear friends,

We are writing to ask you to encourage your female graduate students and postdoctoral researchers to apply for the 2016 Rising Stars in EECS: An Academic Workshop for Women, which will be hosted by Carnegie Mellon University‘s Department of Electrical and Computer EngineeringCollege of Engineering Center for Faculty Success, and the School of Computer Science from October 30th to November 2nd, 2016.

This is the fourth workshop in an annual series that was initiated by the MIT EECS Department in 2012; see the three previous workshops at MIT and UC Berkeley for more information.

This workshop brings together women who are interested in careers in academia, for two days of scientific/technical interactions and career-oriented discussions. It will include poster sessions as well as presentations on aspects of life in academia – from finding a faculty position to parameters of success as a junior faculty member. Participants will have the opportunity to present their ongoing research, to interact informally with our faculty members at Carnegie Mellon and to receive advice for advancing their careers.

Please encourage your female graduate students within approximately 1-2 years of graduating with a Ph.D. at the time of the workshop or postdoctoral researchers who have obtained a Ph.D. no earlier than 2014 and do not currently hold a faculty position to apply online by June 15. This workshop will be limited to 50+ invited participants since travel and local living expenses will be covered.

If you have any questions or suggestions for the workshop, please don't hesitate to contact us. Thank you in advance for your support of this program!

Jelena
