Sponsored Webinar: Preparing Graduate Students for Effective Undergraduate Teaching: Advantages of Evidence-Based Online Modules

Join us for a webinar on Thursday, April 23, 2020 from 2:00 - 3:00pm ET

Graduate students carry important teaching responsibilities in discussion sections, labs, and sometimes their own courses. Alongside their preparation as scholars and researchers, it’s important that they develop effective and inclusive teaching practices that are shown to promote deeper learning, higher rates of course completion, and more equitable student outcomes.

This webinar introduces you to two new online short courses in effective teaching practices designed specifically for graduate students and offered by the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE).

The 4- to 6-week graduate student-only online course, “Promoting Active Learning” is facilitated by an expert in collegiate instruction and provides cohorts of graduate students the opportunity to develop practices that actively engage students and promote critical thinking. Recommended practices include approaches for teaching online. A second course is also offered specifically for the online classroom, "Promoting Active Online Learning." The courses will be first offered in Summer 2020 and are ideal preparation opportunity for those who will teach in the 2020-21 academic year—face to face or online. Individual graduate students can apply directly or be enrolled by the graduate program.

Course participants will have the opportunity to earn a micro-credential in partial fulfillment of the requirements of ACUE’s certificate in effective college instruction, endorsed by the American Council on Education.

Graduate deans, directors of graduate studies and faculty members are encouraged to participate in the webinar to learn more about the course.

Presenter: Melissa Zantello, executive director, academics, ACUE
