Austin Tackaberry to Serve as Chair of the AIChE Executive Student Committee
April 23, 2014
Austin Tackaberry, a junior Chemical Engineering student from Roscoe, Illinois, will serve as the Chair of the Overall AIChE Executive Student Committee (ESC) beginning May 2014. He was elected in November at the 2013 AIChE Annual Student Conference and will oversee more than 200 student chapters spanning 20 countries.
AIChE’s 23 committees function as national liaisons between the Board of Directors and the Institute’s membership, and the ESC is the only committee that is student-run. The goal of the ESC is to not only improve individual student chapters and regions but also connect graduating students with the Institute for their future career as a chemical engineer. Executive Student Committee Member responsibilities include communicating with 8-10 student chapter presidents in the region on a monthly basis with a focus on improvement and also leading the Presidents Meetings at Regional and International Conferences. As Chair of the ESC, Austin plans to establish a leadership structure within each region and raise adequate funding to send all ESC Members to their respective Regional Conferences as well as the International Conference each fall.
The Executive Student Committee has also implemented the Sister Chapter Program which pairs new International Student Chapters with a Domestic Student Chapter. The International Chapter benefits from this relationship by learning how an established chapter operates. Also, the Sister Chapters bond through exchanging recipes, learning about each other’s cultures, and ultimately meeting at the Annual Student Conference.
