Colombia Purdue Initiative — CPI

Universidad EAFIT was founded on May 4, 1960, to train future businessmen and women in Antioquia.

EAFIT currently offers 21 undergraduate programs, 66 graduate certificate programs, 30 master’s degree programs and 4 doctorate programs in the schools of Management, Engineering, Sciences and Humanities, Law, and Economics and Finance.

EAFIT’s educational model also extends to other parts of Colombia. EAFIT Bogotá, EAFIT Pereira and EAFIT Llanogrande offer graduate-level, language and continuing education programs, as well as consulting services to companies, governments and other entities. Likewise, the institution maintains a presence in Guatemala through a graduate certificate and a master’s degree program offered there.

Through all these initiatives, EAFIT remains true to its promise of being a university open to the world, transmitting and generating knowledge as well as making it available to the outside world.

One of the institution’s goals is to transition from a university that transmits knowledge to a university that generates it.

The second axis of the 2012-2018 Strategic Development Plan is the consolidation of a teaching and research university. This goal is pursued through a research system that begins with the inquiries of the young participants in Children’s University before progressing to the next stages: the incubators and research groups.

The current research budget covers the cost of some 150 projects. The research carried out at EAFIT, in keeping with its mission as an educational institution, is geared toward solving the problems that faces the Colombian society. The guiding principles of its research efforts are, therefore, permanent innovation, and an enterprising spirit and social cooperation.

Colciencias recognizes 39 EAFIT groups for their quality and the pertinence of the results obtained through their investigative work. Proof of this are the 10 patents granted by the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce: three invention patents and seven utility model patents.
