September 1, 2015Purdue University's executive vice president for research and partnerships, Dr. Suresh Garimella, will participate of the Cities for Life Global Meeting in Medellin, Colombia. Dr. Garimella will release a “Concept Paper on Networks of Excellence for Research and Education.” The concepts presented in the document were developed during the University of the Future, a workshop held at Purdue and with the participation of rectors and members of the top universities in Colombia.

Bonnie Prado leads the first camp, in partnership with Purdue University. The idea is to have this as an annual one-week camp, where knowledge is brought to remove this forgotten community from the lack of opportunities bringing them closer to science and technology. Along with Bonnie, the director of the Latino Cultural Center at Purdue University, Aurelio Curbelo-Ruiz; agriculture professor Morris Levy, from CPI, and Benji Loney, who works with Google and is part of the project, arrived to Choco to launch the first camp.

The study was developed by Nicolás Guarín-Zapata, Purdue Colombian doctoral student; Juan Gomez, a researcher from the Civil Engineering Department, Universidad EAFIT, Medellín, Colombia; Nick Yaraghi doctoral student from UC Riverside; David Kisailus, the Winston Chung Endowed Professor in Energy Innovation at the University of California, Riverside; and Pablo Zavattieri, an associate professor in the Lyles School of Civil Engineering.

Adams Professor of Mechanical Engineering and associate dean for the Global Engineering Program at Purdue University; and Alba Avila, an associate professor in the Electrical and Electronic Department at Uniandes who is affiliated with the microelectronics center (CMUA) there.

This campaign is a special effort to recruit Latin American students and drive them to EducationUSA resources; by talking with them in ways and in places that they talk to each other.
