The Research Experience and Mentoring Program (REM) is a unique opportunity for NSBE SEEK mentors that allows participants to work on a research project focused catalysis, separations, or process design during a six-week research program at Purdue University and then serve as a mentor for NSBE’s SEEK program. 

Program dates for REM-REU: May 20-July 3 

Application Period: Open

Stipend: $4,000. Some additional funding for housing and travel

Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) at Purdue University

CISTAR's Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) is a ten-week summer internship program. Students will be matched with an Engineering faculty member at one of CISTAR’s five partner universities to work on a research project of mutual interest. Additionally, students will attend weekly professional development seminars, receive mentoring regarding opportunities for graduate study and participate in the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program (SURF). Special consideration is given to students currently attending institutions that do not offer Ph.D. programs.

Research Areas: 

  • Synthesis of Nanomaterials and Nanoscale Structures

  • Catalyst Characterization, Spectroscopy, and Imaging

  • Materials Discovery and Development

  • Chemical Kinetics and Catalysis

  • Theory, Modeling and Electronic Structure Calculations

PROGRAM LENGTH: Ten-week session

ELIGIBILITY: Students majoring in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Environ. Science, Economic Analysis. Eligible students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, currently enrolled in a college or university, and attending in the fall.

STIPEND: $5,000 stipend plus housing and travel.
