Event Date: August 13, 2016
Priority: No
College Calendar: Show

"A new financially supported Summer Course will be offered to provide excellent preparation for international careers and cooperation in global teams."

(Main contact person at TU Dresden is Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ullrich Hesse)

(Main contact person at Purdue is Eckhard A. Groll, Dr.-Ing. Reillly Professor of ME)

The "International Refrigeration and Compressor Course“ will take place for the first time in 2016! This is an opportunity for 10 TU Dresden students and 10 students from Purdue University (Indiana, USA) to collaborate, learn new material, and work on global teams.

The financial expenses of TU Dresden students for travel and accommodation will be supported by the SCHAUFLER-Foundation (www.the-schaufler-foundation.de.)

The financial expenses of Purdue students for travel and accommodation will be supplemented through a $2000 Study Abroad assistantship by Purdue University.

The course consists of two separate event weeks for both German and American students. The first event week is from May 14 – 21, 2016 in Dresden and in Rottenburg, Germany and the second event week is from August 13 – 20, 2016 at Purdue University, USA. These event weeks will consist of exciting presentations, excursions and practical laboratory training in the area of energy and process engineering, environmental protection and investigation of material properties specifically for thermal system and compressor engineering.

Teams of both TU Dresden and Purdue students will collaborate to conduct projects by means of computer simulations and will have the opportunity to present final results during the second event week at Purdue.

The course will be listed as ME 59700 "International Refrigeration and Compressor Technologies “ and will count for 3 credit hours (3 credit hours equals 30 1 hour and 15 minute lessons for 1 semester). It is intended for students pursuing Graduate Degrees in Mechanical Engineering, although senior students and students from other engineering disciplines with appropriate prerequisites are also eligible to participate.

The course is co-organized by the Bitzer Foundation for Refrigeration, Cryo and Compressor Engineering at TU Dresden and the Ray W. Herrick Laboratories at Purdue University.
