Announcements

The textbook for the class is Tannehill, Anderson, and Pletcher's 2nd Edition of Computational Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer. It should be available on-campus in the bookstore but it also available online at amazon.com. You can preview it at google books: CFD textbook

It is not required, but if you would like to purchase a very good book on Fortran, I recommend Chapman's Fortran95/2003 for Scientists and Engineers (ISBN 0073191574 / 9780073191577) published by McGraw-Hill. Another excellent book (at a slightly higher level) is Fortran 95/2003 Explained by Metcalf, Reid, and Cohen published by Oxford Press. Either book can be previewed in google books (I think) and are available for purchase at amazon.com.

In order to remotely login to the ME Linux machines available for your use in this class you need to download and install an ssh client such as SecureCRT which is freely available to you via your Purdue Career account. Please see the following link for details on how to download and install SecureCRT: SecureCRT

The ME Linux machines have several Fortran compilers installed for your use and they are the ones you should use for your class work. If you would like to have a free Fortran compiler on your Windows machine you can download one here: Fortran95 compiler

At this point my office hours will be MWF 10:20-11:20AM (before class).

Please try to (a) download lecture notes from this site (I will bring copies for the on-campus students for the first day of class) and (b) try and logon to the Linux machines listed in the syllabus after installing SecureCRT on your machine.

The website I mentioned in class to download software such as MATLAB, Tecplot, etc. is: PU Software Site

Sorry for website trouble - the cold temps have been playing havoc with our computer cluster that hosts the website. Also sorry if certain parts of Lecture 3 were not clear. I really need to update my Fortran slides to make the "present" better. If you have questions on subroutines and the like please ask. Also, I am replacing the slides for Lecture 4 with a new pack to ensure a better more effective lecture. So, if you downloaded the first packet please keep it and download the next to be posted shortly.

Homeworks

Please read Chapter 1 this week. A computer programming practice assignment will be posted here for Session 2. It will not be collected.
