Section 1 - Constitution
This document is the Constitution of the Civil Engineering Student Advisory Council. It was originally written and signed in 1998 by the founding members of this organization, and has been revised from time to time. It is the highest set of rules and regulations which defines the purpose and makeup of the Civil Engineering Student Advisory Council.
Article I - Name
Section 1 - Name
The name of this organization is the Civil Engineering Student Advisory Council. Hereafter, all occurrences of "the organization" or "CESAC" shall refer to the Civil Engineering Student Advisory Council.
Article II - Purpose
Section 1 - Purpose
CEASC was founded in 1998 with the purpose of serving as a representative of Purdue Civil Engineering students to the Head of the School of Civil Engineering; promoting communication between Civil Engineering students and administration of the School of Civil Engineering; providing a focus for students with change-related concerns and issues.
Article III - Membership
Section 1 - Members
Members of CESAC shall consist of the three executive officers and a varying number of student at-large representatives bwtween the numbers of five and ten.
Section 2 - Qualifications for Membership
Purdue University students registered as full-time students in the School of Civil Engineering are eligible for membership. Civil Engineering undergraduate students with two semesters or more until graduation shall be eligible for membership.
Section 3 - Accepting New Members
All elegible students may submit applications to join CESAC. From this pool of applicants, CESAC shall select new members via a formal interview process.
Section 4 - Statement of Equal Opportunity
No qualified person will be denied membership in CESAC on the basis of race, religion, ethnic group, G.P.A., national origin, handicap, sex, gender, or sexual orientation.
Section 5 - Term of Membership
The term of membership shall be from acceptance into the organization until graduation from Purdue.
Section 6 - Expulsion
Any member found promoting or participating in any activity destructive to the welfare of CESAC might be expelled by a two-thirds majority vote of all members of CESAC.
Section 7 - Advisors
The Head of the School of Civil Engineering and the Assistant Head of the School of Civil Engineering or their designates shall serve as the advisors to CESAC.
Article IV - Executive Officers
Section 1 - President
The President shall represent CESAC in all affairs external to the organization; preside at all CESAC monthly meetings; provide direction for activities for CESAC to accomplish; and, serve as facilitator of weekly CESAC meetings.
Section 2 - Vice President
The Vice-President shall serve as directed by the President; serve as secretary of weekly CESAC meetings; serve as President in the event that the office of President becomes prematurely vacant; and, serve as the President in the absence of the President.
Section 3 - Treasurer
The Treasurer shall serve as directed by the President; maintain the funds of CESAC; ensure adequate funding exists for the events and projects that CESAC hosts and/or promotes.
Article V - Amendments
Section 1 - Approval
The Constitution may be amended by a majority vote of all of the members of CESAC, depending upon the approval by the Office of the Dean of Students, the Head of the School of Civil Engineering, and the Assistant Head of the School of Civil Engineering.
