Section 1 - Constitution

This document is the Constitution of the Civil Engineering Student Advisory Council. It was originally written and signed in 1998 by the founding members of this organization, and most recently revised in the spring 2014 semester. It is the highest set of rules and regulations which defines the purpose and makeup of the Civil Engineering Student Advisory Council.

Article I - Name

Section 1 - Name

The name of this organization is the Civil Engineering Student Advisory Council. "CESAC" shall refer to the Civil Engineering Student Advisory Council.

Article II - Purpose

Section 1 - Purpose

CESAC was founded in 1998 with the purpose of increasing interaction between Civil Engineering students and the administration of the School of Civil Engineering. CESAC is committed to involving students in all phases of engineering education. We aim to build the partnership between students, faculty, administrators, alumni, community, and industry to continue pursuing Purdue Engineering's excellence in education, research, and service.

Article III - Membership

Section 1 - Members

Members of CESAC shall consist of the three executive officers (Article IV) and between ten to twenty student representatives. A minimum of five students must be present to conduct business.

Section 2 - Qualifications for Membership

Purdue University students registered as full-time students in the School of Civil Engineering are eligible for membership. Civil Engineering students with two or more semesters until graduation shall be eligible for membership.

Section 3 - Accepting New Members

All eligible students may submit applications to join CESAC. From this pool of applicants, CESAC shall select new members via a formal interview process.

Section 4 - Statement of Equal Opportunity

No qualified person will be denied membership in CESAC on the basis of G.P.A, race, religion, color, sex, age, national origin or ancestry, genetic information, marital status, parental status, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, disability, or status as a veteran.

Section 5 - Term of Membership

The term of membership shall be from acceptance into the organization until graduation from Purdue.

Section 6 - Expulsion

Any member found promoting or participating in any activity destructive to the welfare of CESAC might be expelled by a two-thirds majority vote of all members of CESAC. Additionally, failure to attend two meetings and/or events will result in a two-thirds majority vote for dismissal from CESAC.

Section 7 - Advisors

The Head of the School of Civil Engineering and her/his designate shall serve as the advisors to CESAC.

Article IV - Executive Officers

Section 1 - President

The President shall represent CESAC in all affairs external to the organization, preside at all CESAC meetings, and provide direction for all of CESAC.

Section 2 - Vice President

The Vice President shall serve as directed by the President, act as secretary of CESAC meetings, serve as President in the event that the office of President becomes prematurely vacant, and serve as President in the Presidentís absence.

Section 3 - Treasurer

The Treasurer shall serve as directed by the President, maintain the funds of CESAC, and ensure adequate funding exists for the events and projects that CESAC hosts and/or promotes. All expenditures will be subject to approval by the Business Office for Student Organizations.

Article V - Amendments

Section 1 - Approval

The Constitution may be amended by a majority vote of all of the members of CESAC, subject to approval by the Office of the Dean of Students.
